updates. unfiltered thoughts while continuing to expand chatpastel. june 24, 2025. i thought this would be helpful to keep track on what's going on with the website. i have a new post on wednesday, and there are a few others in the works. right now i've been very motivated with writing.

I am an independent creator, based in Arizona. My goal is to create quality content for those who enjoy topics related to culture, society as a whole, global news, music and other related topics. about. my name is josiah. At what some consider “pushing 30,” I’ve found myself drawn to contrast. Whether it’s being an Arizona native who has always loved the rain, the way movement contrasts with stillness, the desire for connection while feeling destined for solitude, or living in digital noise while gathering quiet moments in between. I spent my early years of adulthood producing music, traveling, and attending concerts, living by the motto “Life begins when you step outside of your comfort zone,” and searching for joy, even when it wasn’t finding me. These days, my limited free hours are spent completing my Bachelors degree. My love for communication stemmed from a growing interest in travel inspired by Jon Krakauer’s Into the Wild. The story of Christopher McCandless resonated with me through its raw exploration of self-discovery, isolation, and adventure. It made me curious about the ways people search for meaning and connection, often beyond what is familiar. We’re each born with our unique perspectives, shaped by our culture and surroundings. Cultures can align with or clash with others. One culture can feel like a parallel universe to another. Sociology has enabled me to deepen my understanding of how I perceive people, language, and identity, as well as how we create meaning in a hyper-connected world. The rest of the time, you’ll find me with my two cats, gaming (mainly Fortnite), writing at 2 a.m., and reminding myself that everything takes time. Chatpastel is where I explore all of that. It’s a quiet, thoughtful space for the things we often feel but don’t always say out loud. Thank you for taking a moment of your day to visit. I hope something resonates. poe. poe is where the frustration goes. he’s the voice that surfaces when silence gets too heavy. everything poe writes is still mine. he’s just the version who doesn’t soften reality.

a glimpse of my former self. both released and unreleased material, free to listen and/or download. music collection. a life in sound: my musical journey. Music has always been a huge part of my life. During my darkest moments, it was one of the few things that kept me going. My musical journey started when I was about eleven years old when a friend convinced me to join my middle school’s orchestra. They handed me a violin with viola strings, and for three years, I played in school concerts. It was the first time I ever felt like I was part of something. When I started high school, I joined the orchestra again. But this time, it felt different. I went from first violin to third, and I quickly realized it didn’t make me as happy as I thought it would. My part felt insignificant, like I wasn’t contributing anything. It became just another reminder that I was nothing. Sophomore year, I transitioned to piano. I spent the next few years diving into music theory and eventually reached the point where I played piano with one of my high school choirs. Writing songs in my bedroom, I dreamed of turning them into something real. There was something about contemporary music that fascinated me—the small details most people don’t even notice. The bassline, the light synth, the percussion patterns, the backing vocals. I fell in love with the intricacies of sound. I know everyone and their grandmother makes music these days, but that never stopped me from wanting to create for myself. We live in a time where everything feels like it has to be monetized, but I don’t care if I succeed or fail—music reaches everyone. As Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once wrote, “Music is the universal language of mankind.” As I started learning how to produce, I realized there were skills I just couldn’t figure out on my own. I struggled to find anyone who truly wanted to collaborate, so I worked alone. And the worse my mental health got, the sooner my flame burned out.
