I am an independent creator, based in Arizona. My goal is to create quality content for those who enjoy topics related to culture, society as a whole, global news, music and other related topics. about. my name is Josiah Pearlstein. At what some people call pushing 30, I find myself drawn to contrast. I am an Arizona native who prefers rain to heat. I move between connection and solitude, digital noise and quiet moments, the life I plan and the life I end up living. In my early twenties, I produced music, traveled, and spent long nights at concerts, guided by the idea that life begins when you step outside your comfort zone. I was searching for joy, even when it did not always find me. These days, my free hours go toward finishing my Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Sociology, with plans to continue into a Master’s in Digital Audience Strategy. My interest in communication began with travel and a single book: Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. Christopher McCandless’s story stayed with me because it grappled with self-discovery, isolation, and the search for meaning. It raised questions about why people seek connection beyond what they know, and what they hope to find when they do. We all grow up inside a limited perspective, shaped by culture, place, and the stories we inherit. Sometimes cultures align. Sometimes they collide. Sociology gave me language for understanding how people make meaning, how communication breaks down or bridges gaps, and how identity forms in a hyper-connected world. When I am not writing or studying, I am usually with my two cats, gaming, or awake at 2 am trying to untangle whatever has been sitting in my head. I am learning to accept that most things take time. Chatpastel is where all of this comes together. It is a space for cultural reflection, personal writing, and questions that live between the lines. The thoughts we feel but don't always say. updates. unfiltered thoughts while continuing to expand chatpastel. june 24, 2025. i thought this would be helpful to keep track on what's going on with the website. i have a new post on wednesday, and there are a few others in the works. right now i've been very motivated with writing.

a glimpse of my former self. both released and unreleased material, free to listen and/or download. music collection. a life in sound: my musical journey. Music has always been a huge part of my life. During my darkest moments, it was one of the few things that kept me going. My musical journey started when I was about eleven years old when a friend convinced me to join my middle school’s orchestra. They handed me a violin with viola strings, and for three years, I played in school concerts. It was the first time I ever felt like I was part of something. When I started high school, I joined the orchestra again. But this time, it felt different. I went from first violin to third, and I quickly realized it didn’t make me as happy as I thought it would. My part felt insignificant, like I wasn’t contributing anything. It became just another reminder that I was nothing. Sophomore year, I transitioned to piano. I spent the next few years diving into music theory and eventually reached the point where I played piano with one of my high school choirs. Writing songs in my bedroom, I dreamed of turning them into something real. There was something about contemporary music that fascinated me—the small details most people don’t even notice. The bassline, the light synth, the percussion patterns, the backing vocals. I fell in love with the intricacies of sound. I know everyone and their grandmother makes music these days, but that never stopped me from wanting to create for myself. We live in a time where everything feels like it has to be monetized, but I don’t care if I succeed or fail—music reaches everyone. As Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once wrote, “Music is the universal language of mankind.” As I started learning how to produce, I realized there were skills I just couldn’t figure out on my own. I struggled to find anyone who truly wanted to collaborate, so I worked alone. And the worse my mental health got, the sooner my flame burned out.
